Special Power; Shadow Stalking. Kane is able to sink into and out of and move through shadows. While doing so he is entirely incorporeal and undetectable; the only sign of him is a darkened area of the shadow where he is hiding. The greater the contrast between a shadow and the rest of the environment, the more easily Kane is able to enter and move through it. While moving through shadows he is capable of traveling at very high speeds. Kane does not necessarily have to emerge fully from a shadow, nor does he necessarily have to sink his entire body into one.

History; Kane was born to a British father and Hong Kong native mother, the third of four children. His father was a successful entrepreneur of some sort -Kane never really cared- and his mother was from a fairly wealthy family, so the Masters household was quite well-off financially. Both parents held very high standards, determined to transform the Masters family into the beginnings of an influential and wealthy dynasty. As such, the two were heavily involved in the lives of their children, constantly pushing them to excel. Yet despite, this they were emotionally distant from their offspring, leaving them to deal with most issues unrelated to personal success alone.

As a child, Kane proved very strange and difficult to manage. He constantly rebelled under his parents’ authority and lied habitually. After discovering matches, he went through a prolonged and dangerous phase of pyromania. This phase stopped abruptly once Kane discovered bugs and decided to spend his free time killing them in creative fashions. Worst of all, he was a bully. Although not the largest boy around, Kane was able to push other children around using his quick wits along with an assertive and aggressive nature. No matter what punishments they used, the parents could not make Kane to obey them.

In primary schooling, Kane showed himself to be exceptionally clever, but equally apathetic and ill-behaved. It was not long before he was shunted into a remedial class for disobedient children. This angered Kane immensely. Why was he “stuck in the class with all the idiots!?” He refused to accept anyone else’s explanation for the matter, preferring to place to blame on everybody else. At least he did until he realized that many of his fellow classmates were doing the exact same thing. Kane, with all his pride, refused to be like those people that he hated so much and decided that it would be in his own interests to attempt to behave in a more socially acceptable manner. It wasn’t long after acting on that decision that he was returned to a normal class.

Despite putting a lid on the worst of his behavior, Kane still proved to be a very troublesome child. He became withdrawn and antisocial primarily. His bullying of the past transformed into something purely psychological and manipulative in nature. He remained selfish, fiercely independent, and entirely unable to be disciplined by the time he became an adolescent. Kane’s father grew increasingly irritated with his son’s behavior, and by the time that he was sixteen he had taken all he could. The father threatened to disown his son, remove him from the family, kick him out of the house, and take away any financial support. Kane didn’t even make an attempt at reforming. He punched his father in the face right then and there and walked out of the house, laughing all the way and promising his father that he would regret this.

Kane was absolutely determined to make the entire Masters family regret disowning him. He quickly seized a job and apartment to make his home in, but his rotten disposition and behavior got him removed from both even more quickly. Kane bounced from job to job and home to home for several months before falling into a rage-inspired state of despair and apathy. As much as he hated other people, Kane came to hate himself more and more. One day he wandered into a shadowy alleyway, just wanting to disappear. And he did just that, sinking into the shadows. Needless to say, Kane was shocked when he realized his ability, but he also took it as a source of inspiration, knowing that he had to be great to have such a capability.

With his newfound power, Kane briefly engaged in a life of petty thievery before coming to what might be termed an awakening. He found such behavior to be beneath him, as was all that bouncing around in job and residence. Just as in the case of the remedial class years ago, Kane had to sit down and take a hard look at himself, the root cause of his situation, and his goals. He wanted to make his father regret what he had done, and the best way to achieve that would be to shame him by achieving great success; that would be the most satisfying revenge. The problem, he realized, was himself and his behavior. In order to achieve success in society he would need to adopt society’s values, or at least appear to do so. With this in mind, he decided that he would need to rebuild himself.

So Kane created a new persona of himself, one directly opposite of who he was before. A person, he believed, that would be perfect for infiltrating society as a whole with. It worked just as he had hoped. Now acting as a good-natured individual, he was able to find and actually keep a job and home. He was also able to return and finish school, going on to secondary school with the plans of attending a medical college and becoming a doctor of some sort. Along the way, Kane also found employment in the kitchens of a high-class restaurant. Cooking seemed a natural talent for him, and he quickly rose through the ranks to a top position with pay to match.

Having finished secondary education, Kane is currently awaiting enrollment into a medical college with the goal of becoming a surgeon. He is still employed in the high-class restaurant, still with one of the highest positions available. Despite his adoption of the different persona, he is still very much the man he once was.

Personality; Kane is far from a simple, or normal, person. He is intelligent, ruthless, and Machiavellian to the extreme. He has absolutely no concerns or cares for other people and has no qualms against manipulating people. Moral standards for him are practically nonexistent, and he feels no guilt from hurting others. In fact, he happens to have a sadistic streak and loves to see people suffer. Kane has little worry for the repercussions of his actions. He is also very driven and intent on achieving whatever goals he takes to mind, and as such he avoids doing anything that would hurt his ability to achieve these goals or be counterproductive to them. He is also quite aggressive and has a short temper, but with years of work he has managed to learn to control the temper exceedingly well. Above all, he is an incredibly proud, bordering almost on arrogant, man who sets high standards for himself and refuses to lower himself or accept any disrespect.

As a sham and means of achieving his goals, Kane has created an entirely different personality to interact with people and society. This carefully crafted persona is nearly the exact opposite of his true self. It is kind, caring, courteous, humble, and generally a very nice person. Essentially, the false identity is everything that Kane himself is not and not everything that he himself is. Despite being a fallacious construct, the persona has been used so much and so long that has almost developed into its own identity. While nowhere close to a separate personality and still entirely subservient to the primary, disturbed Kane, this kinder and gentler Kane is sincere in its own, strange way.

In both his primary and secondary personalities, Kane is highly intelligent and despises boredom. He generally attempts to remain mentally stimulated in some way, and loves puzzles and games. He particularly loves strategy games ranging from Chess to Risk to various real-time strategy videogames. If not playing at some sort of game or puzzle, Kane generally prefers to be reading or, occasionally, plotting some particularly cruel or unpleasant act.

Appearance; Kane is six feet tall on the dot. His hair is a long, red, spiky mess with jagged bangs that usually hang across his face. His eyes are reddish-brown in color. Kane carries himself confidently and generally has a small smile across his face. He generally prefers to wear a nondescript pair of jeans and a white button-up shirt unbuttoned over a solid colored t-shirt.
